Shredder for Soap & Bleach Bottles

The NYC Trash thread brought back to mind an idea.

I remember someone commenting on a Shredder that they used on soap & bleach bottles, which shredded the bottles into course chunks of confetti, into a trash container, which he kept in the back room.
Reducing the huge amount of space taken up in his trash by these plastic containers.

Seems to me this might be a popular item if it was placed on a clear Acrylic Bin, say about 2 ft square and 3 ft high.
Place it next to one of the regular trash bins in the Laundromat.

The customer could put the bottle(s) into a top opening, close the door and press a button to see the bottle(s) shredded into little bits, and feel good about how much trash space they were saving.

Plus it's cheap entertainment for the bored public.

Looked online, and all I found was clunky, ugly, and unattractive commercial units.

Shredders sound like a liability.  Why not get a couple SmartPack compactors?

Do y'all not have a local recycling center?

here in Houston we have a recycling center like 5 minutes of my store. I take all my plastic bottles that we collect throughout the week as well as all my cardboard boxes and recycle them.

    1. Saves the environment
    2. Saves $ on having a smaller dumpster

    win win for me.

    Wes,

Recycling that way may be a win if you're only paying yourself near minimum wage.  I earn about $600.00/hour that I work in my laundromat so that will never make sense for me.  By the way, did you know that separating recyclables into several containers is a waste of effort when your collector's equipment or system break down?  If he can't recycle, he just throws it all into his landfill anyway.

    Chris,

I watched the video and this looks like a great idea and a real potential money saver.  Are you using these in your store now?  Do they work well with the liquid detergent bottles?

I am not, but have seen them in an airport once.  Might be good for an unattended mat where trash buildup is a problem.

Well I still think this is a good idea in concept.  However at over $6000 each it is a very long putt to cost justify.
